Royal Enfield 1975 - 77

A Forgotten Chapter of a Famous Name

Founded in 1893, Royal Enfield built its reputation on dependable engineering and understated design. Although bicycle production ceased in Britain during the 1960s, the Royal Enfield name continued into the 1970s on a small number of export models produced for the American market.

This bicycle dates from that unusual period. While no longer British-built, it retained many of the qualities associated with the marque: elegant proportions, practical design and durable steel construction. Most distinctive of all was its rare copper-brown metallic finish, a colour that immediately set it apart from its contemporaries.

The Restoration

The bicycle arrived showing the inevitable signs of age, but with its original character largely intact. Our aim was to preserve what made it special while returning it to the condition its designers intended.

The frame was carefully prepared and refinished using a professionally colour-matched enamel process to recreate the depth and warmth of the original finish. The forks and chainset were re-chromed, while the remaining metalwork was polished and detailed to remove decades of oxidation without losing its authenticity.

The Result

The finished bicycle celebrates a little-known chapter in Royal Enfield's history. Visually faithful to the original design yet mechanically refreshed throughout, it captures the elegance that made these machines so appealing in the first place.

Projects like this are a reminder that cycling history is rarely straightforward. This Royal Enfield may have been built far from its British roots, but it remains an important part of the marque's story, one now preserved for years to come.
