Raleigh Winkie

The Raleigh Winkie was an iconic children's tricycle produced in the mid-20th century, designed with classic Raleigh styling and built to last — often passed down through generations. With its sturdy steel frame, box carrier, and bold paint finishes, it was a staple of childhood for many growing up in post-war Britain.

This particular Winkie had been owned by our client since childhood, complete with a box still filled with the rocks they once collected — a time capsule on three wheels.

For the restoration, we worked closely with the client to reimagine the bike in a British Racing Green finish, departing from the original colourway to create something personal and timeless. We paired this with rich brown pedals, handlebar grips, and the true highlight: an extremely rare child-sized Brooks leather saddle — a standout piece of craftsmanship.

Don’t be fooled by it’s size. This little machine was labour-intensive. Due to significant corrosion and wear, the frame, once shot blasted, required extensive filling and surface work before it was ready for paint. The result is a beautifully finished tricycle that honours its past while carrying a fresh identity into the future
